Preparation and characterisation of degradable metallic biomaterials with bioactive coating (Príprava a charakterizácia rozložiteľných kovových biomateriálov s bioaktívnym povlakom)

Martina Petráková is a first-year PhD student in the Physical Chemistry program at the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. She graduated from the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice with bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2018 and with master’s degree in Physical Chemistry in 2020.  Her research is currently focused on a development in biodegradable iron-based orthopedic scaffolds with bioactive coating. Her research studies the rate of corrosion under static and dynamic conditions, as well as the preparation of biodegradable materials with the function of releasing medicinal methods using powder metallurgy. She is dedicated to testing the biocompatibility of biodegradable materials, as well as the study of surface modification of biomaterials with bioactive coatings releasing medicinal or antibacterial nanoparticles and their subsequent characteristics. Her other research interests include electrochemistry, corrosion science, tissue engineering and drug-release activity. She also cooperates with the Institute of Material Research of Slovak Academy of Sciences. She is a co-author of publication Degradation performance of open-cell biomaterials from phosphated carbonyl iron powder with PEG coating in Materials. Martina is also a member of The Electrochemical Society (ECS).
