Modulation of surface energy of tha cells as a tool of metastasis inhibition formation (Modulácia povrchovej energie buniek ako nástroj inhibície tvorby metastáz)

VEGA 1/0095/21 (Application of innovative nanocatalysts and DFT simulations for efficient hydrogen production)

Denis Burčík is a second-year PhD student in the Physical Chemistry program at the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. He graduated from the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice with bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2020 and with master’s degree in Physical Chemistry in 2022. During his master’s degree he worked as Student Scientific Help Force on the topic Antiadhesive mechanism that changes hydrophobic character of CTC surface under the supervision of professor Oriňak. He actually works with cell cultures, mostly with fibroblasts and cancer cells. His research is focused on adhesion of cancer cells and circulating tumor cells. He observes behaviour of cells on several surfaces and in mediums with various concentrations of antiadhesive chemicals. He also measures viability of cells with MTS assay. Surface energy and cell adhesion are important parameters in process of carcinogenesis. He wants to change character of cytoplasmic membrane with antiadhesive chemicals. He tries to find out connection of cancer progression with adhesion and how to use different substances as cancer protective drugs.
